evening over rooftops

•5 April, 2013 • Leave a Comment

The air was thick like honey
Looking from a room
The room had open windows
To let this springtime through

Evening stood by watchin’
At the side of summer’s promise
The flowers in her garden
Were the envy of her friends

How far are we from dying
Is it nearly at an end?
How far are we from dying
Is it nearly at an end?

The smoke hung on the skyline
The city fell in silence
The sunset, ripe and mellow
Was the light to write some thoughts by

Her children watched for father
From a window in the wall
Said a prayer for grandpapa
And maybe many more

Somewhere in the distance
On the road so far away
I heard the sound of life
Though the people left for home

Three birds flew off a building
Standing proud against the sky
Many more flew with them
Spiralled up like laughter

Faster, harder
They rose up in a column
Hundreds upon hundreds
And twice that many wingspeed

Four miles across
Stretched a million miles high
The living pulsing column
In the lady of the sky

Feathers thrashed together
Locked in that huge swarm
I knew no-one could see it
And now that it was gone

I rubbed my eyes and tried to find
A reason for the flight
Exodus, escape
Or was it just for me to see?

Like the mating of the earth and air
Like water is to flowers
The envy of her friends
How far are we from dying, is it nearly at an end?

How far are we from dying
Is it nearly at an end?
How far are we from dying
Is it nearly at an end?…

After the Flood

Continuing the story, humanity stumbles –
gone is the glory, there’s a far distant rumble.
The clouds have gathered and exploded now:
axes shattered, there is no North or South.
Far off, the ice is foundering slowly,
the ice is turning to water,
the ice is turning to water.

The water rushes over all
cities crash in the mighty wave;
the final man is very small,
plunging in for his final bathe.

The water rushes over all
cities crash in the mighty wave;
the final man is very small,
plunging in for his final bathe.

This is the ending of the beginning,
this is the beginning of the end,
middle of the middle, mid-point, end and start:
the first peak rises, forces the waves apart.
Far off, the ice is now re-forming:
poles are fixed once more,
water’s receding, like death-blood.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And then he said:
‘Every step appears to be
the unavoidable consequence of the preceding one,
and in the end there beckons more and more clearly
total annihilation’

This is the ending of the beginning,
this is the beginning of the end,

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

And when the water falls again,
all is dead and nobody lives.

The path you tread is narrow and the drop is shear and very high
The ravens all are watching from a vantage point near by
Apprehension creeping like a choo-train up your spine
Will the tightrope reach the end; will the final cuplet rhyme
And it’s high time
Cymbaline
It’s high time
Cymbaline
Please wake me

Butterfly with broken wings is falling by your side
The ravens all are closing in there’s no where you can hide
Your manager and agent are both busy on the phone
Selling colored photographs to magazines back home
And it’s high time
Cymbaline
It’s high time
Cymbaline
Please wake me

The lines converging where you stand they must have moved the picture plane
The leaves are heavy around your feet you hear the thunder of the train
Suddenly it strikes you that they’re moving into range
Doctor Strange is always changing size
And it’s high time
Cymbaline
It’s high time
Cymbaline
Please wake me And it’s high time
Cymbaline
It’s high time
Cymbaline
Please wake me

Inside my time machine
Where we can dream, hm hm
Away from the world
And all its cares
Time machine

Alone, a sun and moon
Escaping doom, hm hm
From wars and destiny
We will flee
Time machine

We will find a star to guide us
To a time when all our men were free
Free

Away across to Mars
Like shooting stars, hm hm
We’ll stay and see
It’s mystery
Time machine

Maybe we can find a place where our minds will run
Together like the water in a stream
Life would be sublime if only words would rhyme
To a melody within a fantasy

Beyond this universe
Infinite space, hm hm
We’ll take our love
And arts
Time machine

Inside my time machine
Where we can dream, hm hm
Away from the world
And all its cares
Time machine

I see a darkness

Well, you’re my friend, and can you see?
Many times, we’ve been out drinking;
Many times we shared our thoughts.
But did you ever, ever notice, the kind of thoughts I got?
Well, you know I have a love; a love for everyone I know.
And you know I have a drive, to live I won’t let go.
But can you see its opposition, comes rising up sometimes?
That its dreadful imposition, comes blacking in my mind?

And then I see a darkness,
And then I see a darkness,
And then I see a darkness,
And then I see a darkness.
Did you know how much I love you?
Its a hope that somehow you,
Can save me from this darkness.

Well, I hope that someday buddy
We have peace in our lives;
Together or apart,
Alone or with our wives,
And we can stop our whoring,
And pull the smiles inside,
And light it up forever,
And never go to sleep.
My best unbeaten brother,
This isn’t all I see.

Oh no, I see a darkness.
Oh no, I see a darkness.
(Oh) no, I see a darkness.
Oh no, I see a darkness.
Did you know how much I love you?
Its a hope that somehow you,
Can save me from this darkness.

Open Your Eyes,The Day Is Growing Near.
Wasted Away,Sleeping Off The Years.
Been Around,Stuck Around Far Too Long,
Run Away,Hide Away,I Was Wrong.
Couldn’t See,Only Mee,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You’ll Stay The Same.

Give What You Have,Can I Know When I
Left It Too Late?Guess I’ll Never Know Just Why.
Been Around,Stuck Around Far Too Long.
Run Away,Hide Away,I Was Wrong.
Couldn’t See,Only Me,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You’ll Stay The Same.

What Did I Lose,Going My Way.
Taking No More,The Light From My Day.
Been Around,Stuck Around,Far Too Long.
Run Away,Hide Away,I was Wrong.
Couldn’t See,Only Me,Ahh,Too Bad.
Now I Know,How I Know,You’ll Stay The Same.

Snowblind Friend

You say it was this morning when you last saw your good friend
Lyin’ on the pavement with a misery on his brain
Stoned on some new potion he found upon the wall
Of some unholy bathroom in some ungodly hall
He only had a dollar to live on ’til next Monday
But he spent it on some comfort for his mind
Did you say you think he’s blind?

Someone should call his parents, a sister or a brother
And they’ll come to take him back home on a bus
But he’ll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother
Yeah he’ll always be another one of us
He said he wanted Heaven but prayin’ was too slow
So he bought a one way ticket on an airline made of snow
Did you say you saw your good friend flyin’ low?
Flyin’ low
Dyin’ slow

Ain’t Too Good

Well, it ain’t too good,
The way you treat your man,
It’s less than good,
It sure ain’t kind,
It’s your mistake,
You’ll see in time,
When I’m gone, when I’m gone.

Well, it’s been so long,
Since I felt that glow,
The flame was bright,
But it’s burning low,
I should be gone,
But I’m slow to go,
Serves me right, serves me…..

It doesn’t seem clear,
What happens from here and now,
You’ve called the tune, but maybe soon,
Someone must pay for the piper.

Well, it ain’t too late,
To change your mind,
For it’s time you knew,
Just where I stand,
Well, let me know,
‘Cause I got plans,
From now on, from now on, from now on.

I am the walrus

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly.
I’m crying.

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday.
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob.

Mister City Policeman sitting
Pretty little policemen in a row.
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run.
I’m crying, I’m crying.
I’m crying, I’m crying.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog’s eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob.

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun.
If the sun don’t come, you get a tan
From standing in the English rain.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob.

Expert textpert choking smokers,
Don’t you thing the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty,
See how they snied.
I’m crying.

Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower.
Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna.
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob.
Goo goo g’joob g’goo goo g’joob g’goo…

Don’t Let It Bring You Down

•14 October, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Old man lying by the side of the road
With the lorries rolling by,
Blue moon sinking from the weight of the load
And the building scrape the sky,
Cold wind ripping down the allay at dawn
And the morning paper flies,
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes.

Don’t let it bring you down
It’s only castles burning,
Find someone who’s turning
And you will come around.

Blind man running through the light of the night
With an answer in his hand,
Come on down to the river of sight
And you can really understand,
Red lights flashing through the window in the rain,
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying in a gutter in the lane,
If you’re walking home alone.

Don’t let it bring you down
It’s only castles burning,
Just find someone who’s turning
And you will come around.

Don’t let it bring you down
It’s only castles burning,
Just find someone who’s turning
And you will come around.
